So sitting around the dinner table (my favorite place to have a discussion) we were talking about what can we do as a family to cut the energy bill. Princess Seriously brought up laundry. That turned quickly to a childhood memory.
When I was growing up, we used to go to Arizona during the summer. Everyone knows it is DANG hot in the summer there. I remembered that Grandma and I would get up early and do the wash. Now doing the wash was hard work. Why do you ask? Because we did it by hand. Yep hand washing. Well there was the old tub with the wash board and the wringer. Then we would rinse and then hang dry the clothes. By the time we would get to the end the clothesline the clothes that were first hung were completely dry. Then we would take them down shake them out and start again. Now I would always ask why did we not use the washer and dryer in the bathroom? Because those were for winter use and only then.
So guess what the girls want to do, they want to see if we hang clothes out to dry, just how long will it take? I suppose you will see a post about that later this week. LOL
This also led to a discussion about handwashing the dishes. Yep that is what we did after dinner. That had me thinking about all the things we take for granted now. So are you looking for ways to save energy? Well, while that is a great thing, think of things that you can do to spend more time with you kids and talk about the old world you lived in when you were growing up.
Remind me of that later this week when I am ready to string the girls up by there toes.

That reminds me of my own childhood memories. Though we never hand washed our clothes I grew up hang drying our laundry during the summer times with my grandma who lived with us. It took longer for it all to dry here then in Arizona, but we could get about two or three loads done if we were persistant and watchful.
Idaho weather is unpredictable though and there were many times when I would run out in the rain to save the clothes from any damaged caused by dust.
