Been off making memories

So with the teenager, this is her last high school year.  We decided at the beginning of the school year to cram in as much family time as we can this year.  We are not sure where she will end up for college but we want to have fun.
Latest fun, Food trucks.  OMG, I am in heaven, not just taco trucks, but grilled cheeses, bacon, anything you can think of it is out there.  So we have had fun going where there tend to be groups of food trucks and everyone gets something then we all gather and share.  Food the kids are gonna remember the food.  Some of my best memories with my Daddy are chili dog in the back of the mustard colored pinto.
Waterpolo is up and running but the teen is stating so that keeps her busy.
This weekend will bring movies, helping family move and anything else we can think of.

10 years

10 years

I am a news junkie.  Some of that comes from working at a newspaper for 9 years.  During that time 9/11 happened.
It was the one morning that I did not turn on the TV and walked into work blind to what was happening.  I remember not even turning on the radio and driving to work, it was a short drive, less then 5 minute and just driving in silence.  Little did I know what was going on.  Dear sweet Peggy who was my admin at the time was ashen when I walked in.  I remember looking at her and saying what is wrong.  She dragged me into the conference room and we watched.  We even saw the second plane hit.  Tears, tears streamed down out faces.
We were called to the newsroom.  The unedited pictures coming in were incredible.  I remember saying it is so bad people are jumping to escape.  more tears.  We were given an hours to do what was needed at home because we did not know how long were were going to be at work.  I remember calling the mother in law, who lived with us at the time and told her, put the babies in the car, she watched my girlfriends baby too, get gas, fill the car.  I am going to the store I will be home.  She asked, I took the oldest to school, what do I do?  I told her to leave her there and if she had to walk to get her, it would be ok.  I remember calling husband and being so grateful that even though her was an hour and half away that day he was in the state and NOT traveling.  I was so grateful.  I went to the store, loaded up, milk, eggs, bread, juice, cheese and anything else that made it into the basket.  I remember bringing it in and mother in law gasping, I said I have no idea what is going on but we will have food.  I changed my shoes and grabbed clothes and went back to work.  Peggy was still there.  I told her, you will stay with me and tell your daughter to come over if she needed to.  I don’t think I made it home until after midnight that night.  I remember going to help on the presses, going to the newsroom and even selling newspapers out in the city.
I just knew my heart was broken and it was going to be days before I could even make myself turn off the news.
I got involved with a blogger project at the 5 year anniversary.  Every person was to have a blog post.  I remember the name I was first given and I researched like mad.  She was killed at the Pentagon.  Then the call came, please take another one.  He was at the World Trade Center.  My heart hurt, they had children, families and friends.  Those names are written on my heart.
This year was not different, I watched every show I could find, I learned new things, my heart hurt a little less but the hurt will always be there.

That was a wonderful weekend.

I love the long weekends where sleeping in and rain happen in the same weekend.
Friday came with the end of a long weekend.  I was even able to take a short nap, I love naps!  It was also senior yearbook picture day for the oldest.  I will tell you seeing her in her cap and gown was a tear jerker.  Then it was time to take them off to the football game.
The oldest and husband had plans to go shooting Saturday morning with friends, so the little one and I slept in, went out for breakfast, got our nails done and ran other errands.  We also got some relaxing time then off to a street faire where ate and ate.  It is fun taking the little one to try different stuff.  The oldest was off with her BFF and they had fun!
Sunday was a relaxing day, day in jammies, love those days!
Monday we woke up to rain.  The little one had practice for color guard which was cancelled 15 minutes after I dropped her off.  We came home and chilled, made breakfast and enjoyed the day!  BBQ chicken!  YUM!
I love the easy going, happy weekend that are simple but yet fun!!!

Wow real life…

Last week I found out that my sister in law, who is not married to my brother was killed in a horrible drunk driving accident.  My heart ached for my sweet nephews.  She was a wonderful mom and had two other kids and it is just heartbreaking.  Her and I kept in touch through facebook and phone calls but sadly it has been a couple of years since we have all seen each other.  We had recently talked about getting together.
Some family drama went down but it seems to all have calmed down for now and I hope that it stays that way.
My girls are doing awesome right now, they are busy and I am enjoying the time we have with them and watching them become who they are.
Husband has been wonderful, I just dont know I would be without him.  He is my world :)  not in a strange unhealthy way, just in the kind loving way.
So all is well in my perfect life, just a little heartache for others here and there.

When you see those pictures that just make you tear up.

What a loyal companion.  May be have a good home, warm bed and full tummy.

Life has gotten in the way

So I must take a step back for a few days.  Be back when I can.

So it is Friday and we survived the first couple of days

of school that is.
The 6th grader has 3 hours of flag practice after school today.  I packed extra food for her to have snacks after school.  I imagine that she is going to come home hungry.
The senior has her first water polo meeting after school.  Looks like a new routine is about to hit the house.
We survived, but I miss my girls I can not believe this has gone by so fast.  Will catch up with blogging over the weekend.

Should be Wordless Wednesday but

I have too much to say.
Today I officially have a senior in high school and a 6th grade middle schooler.  At this moment I just want everyone to stop growing up.  I thought I would love this but this morning I realized next year at this time I will only have one kid at home and that thought makes me sad.
I was also worried all day about then 6th grader getting lost and being upset. I had gotten used to her texting me all day, telling what she was eating for lunch and what goofy thing she was doing.  I got nothing until I got um, mom I am still in band text.  I quickly text her back and told her I would call the school.  I did and everything got fixed, then later in the I got a it got changed thank you, text.
I also got the my schedule is changed and good from the senior.
They had a great day and I was grateful that I was able to be there to drop them off at school but I was sad that I was not there to pick them up.  I am sad that my girls are growing up to fast and maybe I am not quite as ready as I thought.  I am sad that it was the last of the first days of high school for my senior.
I just feel old.  Really.

I love perfect weekends

I had to pick up husband from the airport late Friday night.  I decided to pick up a girlfriend and make it a fun night out.  Dinner, movies and then pick up husband.  We went off and had a great dinner and rushed to the movies where we enjoyed Friends with Benefits.  Then it was time to pick up husband.  He at this point had been up almost 24 hours.  Hungry and a little loopy from lack of sleep, off to sonic we went.  YUM!  But then it took us forever to get  home due to a bad accident on the freeway, bummer.
Saturday we headed down to the beach for the US Open of Surf and had fun.  Once again I am sunburned in strange places.  Knee caps.  Who would have known.
Sunday Husband and I went out for a date, lunch and Ikea. Such excitement but we always have fun.
The girls should be done with school shopping now and I am sure there will be a few stray things we have to pick up here and there but Husband can do that.

Torture I tell you

I have 2 daughters.  Two daughter that like to shop thanks to their grandmother.  I do not like to shop.  I am a, “I am looking for one thing and will walk in and out ONE shop to find it”.  I am not an endless shopping person.  School starts in less then a week.  This weekend is jam packed.  Husband is out of town.  I had to leave work early for kid duty yesterday.
That meant school shopping…
We started at 3:30ish and they finally let me eat about 7:15ish.  They knew it was time to stop for their health.  Mom was fading, cranky and that means the money stops if I get crankier.  So I heard, Mom, you need food and fast.
But that was after shopping and the trying on of millions and millions of clothes.  I think at some point I started saying, I hate it to everything.  I can not remember, it was such a blur.  The hardest one to shop for is DD2, she is in between sizes.  We lucked out and found 3 pairs of jeans and a pair of jeans a few days ago.  Thank goodness, I was very very stressed out about that.  She will not be naked for school, since jeans is the only pants she will wear.
I am scared that the girls shop at the same places now.  But here is a funny, DD1 was waiting while we were shopping at Justice for DD2.  DD1 looks over and sees the camisoles that she has been looking everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE for.  I tell her, take a look, who knows.  She find something that might fit.  Size 18, then I hear Mom I am plus sized in this store.  I thought it was so funny, I snorted.  That got her started and we were a giggling mess in the middle of the store.
There was about a million more stores after that.
But they finally let me get food and drive home.  I went right to bed.
They need more tonight. Pray for me….

Don’t let comparison compromise your joy.

I saw this quote the other day and it kept rolling around in my head.
I had a friend and I use that term loosely, that just was not happy with her life.  I could not figure out why until saw this quote.
She compared her life with everything and everyone that it was not.  She was also stuck on the past and her happiness in the past, that overrode everything that was of good joy in her present.  When I found a time that I needed her the most, she had to have something of her own going on and was comparing my troubles with hers.  True friends do not do that.
I have had a life and times of great joy and times of not great joy.  I will tell you the times of joy override the not so great joy times.  It makes everything worthwhile no matter how hard it is.  But I think some of that is understanding what true joy is.  Everyone needs to figure that out for themselves, my joy may not be the same as your joy.
My joy is my husband, my children, my family, my beliefs.  In that order.  That is mine and mine alone.
My joy is not a house or needing to be wanted and feel important to all.  I am important to those that matter as are they.  I have no desire to make others feel bad about themselves by nit-picking them and judging them.
So don’t let comparison compromise your joy, you will miss out on life.

I am cracking myself up with the cat pictures.

We has some friend over last night for dinner and somehow the cat we have came up in conversation.
As you can tell I have a black kitty.  She is funny.  She thinks she is a dog and growls at people.  She is annoying in the middle of the night and if she thinks you are moving around too much and interrupting her sleep she will bite your toe.  I don’t understand that cause she usually gets kicked off the bed if that happens.  She lets you know when her food bowl is empty and she will only drink from the dog’s water bowl.  Which that stupid water bowl is up so the dogs don’t have to bend over for.  So that means she ends up flipping over the water bowl and spilling all over.  Lovely
But Tuesday night I found out she likes her picture taken with my cell phone.  I was trying to annoy her with the flash cause she was being a bed hog.  Well the stupid cat LIKES when I take her picture.  Stupid Cat.  She makes the funniest face when the flash goes off then she starts purring and sits there.  So Tuesday night, Wednesday night and last night I amused myself with this.  Husband laughs too.  We have gotten some pretty funny pictures.  I love the nose ones.
So while I am telling out friends this and cracking them up I might add, DD17 pipes up, OHHHHHHH is that what you have been doing cause I see is the camera flashing and I am not even gonna tell you what I was thinking your were doing.
After we all cracked up my thought was well, at least she doesn’t think we are the parents that have only had sex twice…

Conversations with the kids

Last Night:
This one is with the 17 year old daughter.
me:Ok so be dead honest and tell me the truth. DD17 have you ever driven a car before?
DD17: Well no, but Friend was trying to teach me about driving a stick shift and getting the timing down.
me: then how have you never been behind the wheel
DD17: I was in the passengers seat
me: not the same.  So you have never been behind the wheel?
DD17: no, pause pause, but you can teach me.  Lets go.
Husband to DD17: you will be begging me to teach you, I dont think mom is going to be so patient.
me: with me rolling my eyes, I taught your MOTHER to drive a stick shift, I can teach my daughter to drive an automatic.

Then later texting with with DD11 and her dad.
DD11:  can I eat this real quick before bed
Husband: yes (then about 10 other very random texts)
DD11:  Dad you are texting too fast, I have about 10 unread messages I am behind.
Me: I am think we have failed, how could we be texting to fast?  I need to give her better life skills.

That is what happens in my house, what about yours?

Monday Writer’s Prompt – I did it anyway

You know that thing someone told you not to do but you did it anyway?  That is what this is about.
There is so much in life that people tell you to do or not to do.  Every day there is someone or something that tells you that you should not do that, whatever that it.  I am at that point in my life where I actually feel grown up enough to make my own decisions.  Not that I have not always felt that way, but there is something about turning 40 that makes you rethink things.  That is my next birthday.  40.  Yikes.
There are things that I used to think were completely wrong.  Now meh, not so much.  Your life is excatly what you make it.
So what did I do anyway?  Well, I lived, I stood up for myself, I have fun, I enjoy my life daily and the people in it.  I have taken people out, added people but in the end, I just did what was excatly right for me, me and my little family.
So there you have it.  Do it anyway and have fun while you do it.
This advice is not for my 17 year old daughter, you still have to listen to me, lol.  You are not old enough yet.  Someday, but not today.
